The hearts of the Sahaba (r.a) were overwhelmingly filled with Hubbu'l-Rasool (Love of the Messenger) ﷺ. They were the most honored in this Ummah, as they had the honor of seeing and accompanying him. They enjoyed his blessed presence every moment. ﷺ. The Munafiqoon, despite being in his presence, could not attain this great blessing of loving him. Neither Abu Lahab nor Abu Jahl, who were among his closest kin, had this privilege.
Since the time of the Sahaba (r.a), thousands upon thousands of Madh-u'l-Rasool (poems praising the Beloved Prophet ﷺ) have been written. Only a heart filled with Hubbu'l-Rasool can truly compose a Madh-u'l-Rasool.
Why did later generations produce more poems and focus on singing his ﷺ praises (Madh)?...The greatest love poems emerged from those hearts that could never unite in this life. Like Layla and Majnun, the love burning inside Qays turned into words and became a timeless masterpiece.
Qasida al-Burda stands as one of the greatest works written on Madh-ul -Rasool. It has widespread acceptance worldwide among both scholars and common people. As a matter of fact, only hearts filled with love can truly understand the essence of a poetry and the message of love.
